Ash Wednesday
Shifting Times
The weather has shifted here in Toronto from frigid cold to warmer temps around the freezing mark. It is a welcome sign that spring is not too far away. Alongside this change of temperatures is the marking of Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten season. It seems that this holy time shares the borderline of the frosty winter season and the incalescence of spring. One could view it as a struggle between winter and spring. Which one will overcome the other?
Ash Wednesday reminds us of our brokenness and the mercy of God which mends us. It offers us the opportunity to rise above our desperation and be renewed in our faith. Not to be like Judas who ends his life in despair but like Peter who repents and chooses new life with Jesus his friend and Lord.
